ITV: EU approves acquisition of Freesat with Channel 4
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has cleared the acquisition of Freesat (UK) by Channel 4 Television, jointly with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and ITV Network, all of which are based in the UK.
Freesat is a joint venture currently controlled by the BBC and ITV. Freesat provides a satellite broadcasting platform to approximately 1.1 million households.
The Commission concluded that the transaction does not raise any competition concerns, as there is no horizontal or vertical overlap between the activities of Channel 4 and Freesat.
