Affluent Medical: 1st human implantation of 'Artus

(CercleFinance.com) - Affluent Medical today announced the successful first-in-man implantation of the minimally invasive 'Artus' medical device for the treatment of urinary incontinence as part of the European 'Dry' pilot study.


This first implantation of the Artus artificial urinary sphincter was successfully performed by Prof. Roman Zachoval, MD, PhD, Head of the Urology Department at Thomayer University Hospital in Prague, Czech Republic, on a 68-year-old man suffering from severe urinary incontinence.

' Artus is easy to prepare and implant due to its innovative design compared to the previous generation of urinary sphincters. With the positioning of its cuff around the urethra and the implantation of the control unit, the various implantation steps were straightforward', said Prof. Roman
Zachoval.

We successfully carried out communication tests between the control unit and the remote control at the end of the surgery. The patient is doing well and was discharged five days after the operation without complication.

' The company's goal is to treat 10 patients by the end of 2024 and launch a pivotal study in 2025 with a total of 70 patients, and initiate trials in women ' says Invest Securities.
