Cellectis: share sky rockets after AstraZeneca alliance

(CercleFinance.com) - Cellectis shares have soared in Paris on Wednesday after it announced a strategic collaboration with pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca, which will enable the latter to take a 22% stake in its capital.


An hour into trading the share is up a stratospheric 115%, or thereabouts, by far the biggest winner in a Paris market that is up a measly 0.2%.

The agreement with AstraZeneca aims to accelerate the development of a new generation of therapies in areas of high unmet need, such as oncology, immunology and rare diseases.

Under the terms of the agreement, AstraZeneca will leverage Cellectis' gene-editing technologies and manufacturing capabilities to develop new cell and gene therapy product candidates.

Within this framework, 25 gene targets have been exclusively reserved for AstraZeneca, from which up to 10 product candidates could be explored for development.
