Swisscom: new 5G functionality with Ericsson

(CercleFinance.com) - Swisscom and Ericsson announce that they have deployed a new feature that enables them to deliver high-capacity indoor 5G to corporate customers within a 10 km radius, from a centralised location.


The new functionality enhances Ericsson's existing indoor 5G offering - the Ericsson Radio Dot system. It enables Swisscom to use fiber and hybrid fiber cables to deliver power and data to active indoor antennas (Radio Dots) from the indoor radio unit (IRU), extending the cable's range from 300 metres to 10 km.

In practical terms, this means Swisscom can serve more sites faster with high-capacity indoor 5G, with up to 80% less equipment required on site and less service effort, reducing the total cost of ownership.
