BAE Systems: HMS Agamemnon soon to join the Royal Navy

(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems has announced that the Royal Navy's latest Astute-class submarine has officially been named 'Agamemnon' - after the ancient Greek king.
The vessel is the sixth of seven Astute class submarines to be built by the company.

She is due to be launched later this year, before entering service with the Royal Navy.

Astute class submarines are a vital part of our country's defense capabilities, and we are fully focused on completing the remainder of the Agamemnon program so that she can join her sister submarines in service with the Royal Navy, BAE Systems said.

Measuring 97 metres long and weighing 7,400 tons, the submarine will carry both Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAMs) and Spearfish heavy torpedoes.
