GlaxoSmithKline: FDA approves new treatment for malaria

(CercleFinance.com) - GlaxoSmithKline said on Monday that the U.
S. Food and Drug Administration has approved its cure for P. vivax malaria, a disease that causes around 8.5 million infections per year.

GSK said the FDA has approved, under priority review, single-dose Krintafel for the radical cure (prevention of relapse) of P. vivax in patients aged 16 years and older who are receiving appropriate antimalarial therapy.

The approval marks the first new treatment for Plasmodium vivax malaria in over 60 years, GSK said.
