Voltalia: start-up of biomass plant in Guiana
(CercleFinance.com) - Voltalia has announced that the Cacao biomass plant located in Roura, French Guiana, produced its first kilowatt-hours of electricity on 17 December 2020.
With power of 5.1 megawatts, it benefits from a contract that offers a guaranteed rate for a period of 25 years.
Thanks to an investment of around 75 million euros, this plant produces CO2-free electricity sold at a price lower than the cost of national thermal power plants, while contributing to the energy autonomy of the territory.
The power station will have a storage capacity thanks to batteries that have a capacity of 550 kW/250 kWh, enabling its power to be modulated very quickly and help stabilise the country's non-interconnected grid.
