EssilorLuxottica: chairman passes away

(CercleFinance.com) - Eyewear manufacturer EssilorLuxottica announced on Monday the death of the chairman of its board of directors, Leonardo Del Vecchio, at the age of 87.


In a brief statement, the ophthalmic lens and optical frame maker said it had suffered a "tremendous loss" and that its board of directors had planned to meet to decide "the next steps" in governance.

Leonardo Del Vecchio, who founded Luxottica in 1961, had served as CEO of EssilorLuxottica between 2018 and 2020, following his group's merger with France's Essilor.

According to Forbes, his fortune is estimated at nearly 25 billion euros, making him the 60th richest man in the world.
