Nokia: to buy optical networking firm Elenion

(CercleFinance.com) - Telecom network maker Nokia said on Wednesday that it plans to acquire Elenion, a US-based semiconductor firm that is focused on silicon photonics-based chip design.


Nokia said Elenion's technology and design platform will help expand its market footprint by addressing the optical connectivity requirements of 5G, cloud and enterprise networking.

Founded in 2014 and headquartered in New York, Elenion develops silicon photonics technologies for short-reach and high-performance optical interfaces.

The planned transaction is expected to close in the first quarter.

Nokia did not disclose the terms of the deal.
