BMW: Bavaria plant to be upgraded for electric vehicles

(CercleFinance.com) - BMW is investing around 400 million euros in its Lower Bavaria plant for production of the BMW iNEXT, the group's futuristic electric vehicle, which is set to hit the roads in 2021.

The German premium carmaker has said that it is preparing to manufacture pure battery-electric and highly automated cars at its Dingolfing plant, its largest European production location.

With the launch of the iNEXT in 2021, Dingolfing will be capable of producing the fully-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and models with combustion engines to suit demand on a single assembly line, BMW said.

The plant currently produces 1,500 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series and 8 Series cars. Around 18,000 employees work at the location.
