BAE Systems: working with ISI on Canadian destroyers
(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems announces the signing of a contract with Irving Shipbuilding (ISI) for the next phase of Canada's River Class Destroyer program.
The program is billed as "the largest and most complex shipbuilding project undertaken in Canada since the Second World War".
This contract follows the award by the Canadian government of an implementation agreement to ISI for the construction of the first three of the planned 15 ships, as well as for training, spares and maintenance.
In concrete terms, this program will provide decisive combat power for operations at sea and in support of joint forces ashore for a variety of missions: counter-piracy and counter-terrorism, intelligence and surveillance, humanitarian aid, search and rescue operations...
To meet the specific requirements of the Royal Canadian Navy, and as part of this new contract, BAE Systems will provide support and consultancy services throughout the construction phase.
