Mercedes-Benz: new milestone for automated driving

(CercleFinance.com) - Mercedes-Benz reports that Germany has just approved its special lights to signal to other road users that the vehicle is currently being piloted by an automated driving system.

In particular, the lights will make it easier for road authorities and the police to recognize the status of the system and determine whether the driver is authorized to engage in other activities while driving.

"I am proud that this special exemption recognizes our efforts to promote acceptance and confidence in this technology," commented Markus Schäfer, member of the Mercedes-Benz Group Board of Directors and Head of Technology, Development and Purchasing.

The approval is valid nationwide for test purposes until July 2028.

The automaker believes that this decision confirms Germany's pioneering role in the field of automated driving, the country having already been the first to authorize conditional automated driving (SAE-Level 3).
