Lufthansa: EU closes provisional antitrust proceedings
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has decided to close its provisional competition proceedings against Lufthansa, considering that not all the legal conditions for ordering interim measures had been met.
These measures were aimed at obliging the airline to restore access for Condor (a German airline specializing in charter flights) to Lufthansa's feeder traffic between Frankfurt airport and other destinations, under conditions agreed in June 2024. The Commission had opened this procedure as part of a wider investigation into a possible restriction of competition on transatlantic routes between the EEA and several airports, linked to the A++ joint venture between Lufthansa, United and Air Canada, opened on August 7, 2024. After a thorough examination of the available evidence, the Commission has decided to close the provisional proceedings, but continues to examine the compatibility of the joint venture with EU competition rules on transatlantic routes.
