Starbucks: towards the elimination of 1100 jobs
(CercleFinance.com) - Starbucks announced on Monday its intention to cut some 1,100 jobs as part of the 'Back to Starbucks' strategic plan introduced by its new CEO, Brian Niccol.
In a memo sent to the American group's employees, the CEO justifies his decision by the need to simplify its structure, reduce decision-making layers and create smaller, "more flexible" teams.
"Our goal is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity and foster greater integration", explains Brian Niccol in his letter.
As of September 30, Starbucks employed around 361,000 people worldwide.
Brian Niccol also took the opportunity to review the organization of telecommuting, asking senior executives ("vice presidents") in Seattle and Toronto (Canada) to be present in the office at least three days a week.
Lower-level executives will continue to be able to work remotely.
