Nokia: chosen by Orange to upgrade 5G in France

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia announced on Wednesday that it has been chosen by French telecom operator Orange to upgrade its 5G network.

Under the terms of this four-year contract extension, the Finnish equipment manufacturer will be responsible for renewing Orange France's 5G infrastructure, with the aim of improving performance particularly in the west and southeast of the country.

Orange explains that the use of Nokia's 'AirScale' technology will further enhance the customer experience, reduce the environmental footprint and make the network more energy-efficient.

Orange is also scheduled to test the Nordic brand's 'Cloud RAN' 5G solutions, a programmable, cloud-based, open and interoperable radio access standard (RAN) designed to offer greater flexibility in hardware selection, lower costs and greater operational efficiency.

Nokia also announced that Singaporean operator StarHub has now completed deployment of its XGS-PON fiber optic technology, which will enable hundreds of thousands of homes to benefit from Internet speeds of up to ten Gbp/s.
