Halliburton: good quarter, but forecasts disappoint

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday, Halliburton reported higher-than-expected Q4 earnings, thanks to international business, but also warned of a bout of weakness in its North American activities this year.

In Q4 2024, the provider of services to oil companies posted net earnings of $615m, or 70 cents per share, compared with $571m, or $0.65 per share, a year earlier.

Excluding exceptional items, EPS reached $0.73, exceeding the consensus of 68 cents.

Sales fell to $5.6bn, compared with $5.7bn a year earlier, in line with the consensus.

Unlike its competitor SLB, which, last Friday, was confident that the current 'supercycle' in the sector would continue, Halliburton said it expected the North American market to register a sequential decline in 2025, following a 7% drop in Q4.

Halliburton shares, which have lost 14% over the past 12 months, were down over 2% in pre-market trading on Wednesday morning after these forecasts.
