McDonald's: launches 'McValue' low-price offer

(CercleFinance.com) - On Tuesday, McDonald's officially launches, in the US, its long-awaited low-price offer, dubbed 'McValue', in a bid to revive sales that have been flagging due to the recent surge in inflation.

The US fast-food giant, which has been offering a $5 menu since last year, now plans to offer a second $1 hamburger (double cheeseburger, McChicken, etc.) for the first product purchased.

The McValue app will also provide a one-dollar medium fry every Friday, with a free McCrispy sandwich for new users.

The Chicago-based group, which has chosen actor and former wrestler John Cena to promote the new campaign, also plans to partner with 16 brands such as YouTube, American Airlines and Tinder, to offer further promotional offers.

This launch comes at a time when McDonald's has seen its sales growth slow recently, as persistent inflationary pressures have deterred consumers from stopping off at its restaurants.

Over Q3, comparable sales in the US rose by just 0.3%, compared with an increase of over 8% recorded in Q3 2023.

Following these announcements, McDonald's shares rose by 0.7%, compared with a gain of around 0.4% for the Dow Jones index.
