bp: commissions gas well offshore Senegal
(CercleFinance.com) - BP announces the start of gas flow from wells on the GTA Phase 1 project, located offshore Mauritania and Senegal, to its floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, marking a key milestone in the commissioning of the project.
GTA, one of Africa's deepest offshore projects, aims to produce 2.3 million tonnes of LNG per year when fully operational.
The project, declared of strategic importance in 2021 by the two host governments, could position the countries as a major LNG production hub.
The gas will be processed on the FPSO, then transferred to a floating liquefaction vessel (FLNG) for export, with some destined to meet local energy demand. Over 3,000 local jobs have been created, and 300 local companies have been involved.
