EDF: offshore wind farm project won in the Mediterranean
(CercleFinance.com) - EDF Renouvelables announced on Friday that it had won a 250 MW floating offshore wind farm project in the Mediterranean with its partner Maple Power.
The EDF subsidiary, which also specialises in solar energy, storage and biomass, said it had been selected with Maple Power in the sixth offshore wind tender launched in 2022 by the French Ministry of Industry and Energy.
The two groups have been chosen to design, build and operate the floating wind farm known as 'Golfe de Fos 1', located 25 km off the Mediterranean coast.
With a capacity of around 250 MW, it is expected to supply the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of around 450,000 inhabitants.
This is the sixth offshore wind project won by EDF Renouvelables in France as part of the government's calls for tenders since 2011.
With Maple Power, a joint venture created in 2019 and owned 50-50 by Enbridge and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), the company says it has already developed and commissioned France's first offshore wind farm off Saint Nazaire with a capacity of 480 MW and the Fécamp wind farm (500 MW), and is finalizing the commissioning of the Provence Grand Large floating wind farm pilot project (25 MW).
They are building the Calvados offshore wind farm (450 MW) and developing the Dunkirk (600 MW) and Manche Normandie (1 GW) offshore wind farms.
The 'Méditerranée Grand Large' project is in line with the government's target of commissioning some 50 offshore wind farms by 2050, with a total capacity of 45 GW.
