Nokia: wireless detection solutions for the healthcare sector
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia has announced the launch of a research initiative with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) and the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin to investigate the use of wireless sensing technologies in medical applications.
The trio will focus on how sub-therahertz (sub-THz) frequencies could detect human vital signs remotely, paving the way for a new generation of non-invasive medical monitoring and diagnostic solutions.
In a hospital room, for example, the sensor network would be able to detect and distinguish the individual heartbeats and respiratory rhythms of each patient in the room without the aid of intrusive sensors such as electrocardiogram electrodes or fingertip pulse oximeters.
Nokia said that wireless sensing is a fundamental part of our long-term vision for 6G, but if we can apply these same concepts to creating better healthcare solutions, we will have produced even more benefits for society.
