SES: Commission signs agreement with SpaceRISE consortium
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has signed a concession contract with the SpaceRISE consortium for the Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite (IRIS), a multi-orbital constellation of 290 satellites.
This partnership will develop, deploy and operate the European Union's new system. This is an important step towards European sovereignty and secure connectivity.
By offering advanced connectivity services to government users and bridging connectivity gaps across the Union, IRIS strengthens Europe's strategic autonomy and technological leadership, the Commission says.
The SpaceRISE consortium, responsible for implementing this ambitious project, comprises three major European satellite network operators - SES, Eutelsat and Hispasat.
They are supported by a team of European subcontractors. The main partners are Thales Alenia Space, OHB, Airbus Defence and Space, Telespazio, Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Hisdesat and Thales SIX.
