Roche: Vabysmo pre-filled syringe approved in Europe

(CercleFinance.com) - Roche announced on Friday that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) had approved the marketing of its eye treatment Vabysmo in a new pre-filled syringe format.


The Swiss pharmaceutical group explains that this new presentation will enable ophthalmologists to administer Vabysmo more efficiently and conveniently.

The pre-filled syringe format requires fewer preparation steps than its current form, a vial from which doctors fill a syringe to perform an intra-vitreal injection.

The authorisation granted by the EMA covers the treatment of neovascular or wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME) and retinal vein occlusion (RVO), conditions that affect more than nine million people in the European Union.

The Basel-based laboratory also reports that it has obtained CE mark approval for new functionalities recently added to its cobas 6800 and 8800 molecular testing platforms.

This update includes the integration of TAGS technology, developed by Roche, which can detect up to 15 pathogens in a single PCR test.

The group plans to file a similar application with the US FDA in the course of next year.
