Airbus: Air India orders 100 new aircraft
(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday, Air India announced a firm order of another 100 Airbus aircraft to meet the strong growth in air traffic in India, whose dynamism is currently outstripping that of the rest of the world.
The airline states that it intends to acquire 10 A350 wide-body jets and 90 A320 single-aisle aircraft, including the A321neo, an order estimated at almost $9bn based on list prices.
Air India adds that this order is in addition to the 40 A350 and 210 A320 aircraft announced last year, bringing the total number of aircraft ordered from Airbus to 350.
By 2023, Air India had also placed an order with Boeing for 220 aircraft.
Air India states that it will become the first Asian carrier to operate the Airbus A350, which it plans to equip with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines and operate on routes between Delhi and London and New York.
The A320 Family aircraft will be powered by CFM LEAP 1-A engines, and will be used for domestic and medium-haul routes.
Airbus shares were up slightly (+0.3%) in Paris following this announcement.
