Rio Tinto: successful auction of rare diamonds
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto reports that its second 'Beyond Rare' auction, entitled 'Colour Awakened', achieved good results with pink, red and violet diamonds from the Argyle deposit in Australia, along with white and yellow diamonds from the Diavik mine in Canada.
The collection of 76 diamonds attracted 12 international bidders.
Sinead Kaufman, CEO of Rio Tinto Minerals, emphasized the worldwide appeal of colored natural diamonds.
Several diamonds, such as a 4.04-carat white diamond and two rare violet diamonds, will be transformed into one-of-a-kind pieces by renowned jewelers, according to the mining group.
The Argyle mine, which ceased production in 2020, remains a benchmark for pink and red diamonds. Rio Tinto continues to manage the Argyle Pink Diamonds brand and is exploring new mining opportunities in Canada and Angola.
