BAE Systems: SPHEREx observatory tests completed
(CercleFinance.com) - BAE Systems has announced the completion of environmental testing for NASA's SPHEREx observatory.
The mission, scheduled for launch in February 2025, will carry out spectral surveys of the entire sky in infrared light over two years, providing high-resolution maps of the universe and collecting data on over 450 million galaxies and millions of stars.
SPHEREx aims to explore fundamental questions about the formation of the universe, study cosmic expansion since the Big Bang, and identify targets for other telescopes such as James Webb.
BAE Systems supplied the satellite, telescope and supervised integration testing, while Caltech and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory contributed the scientific instruments.
