USA: ISM manufacturing index up in November
(CercleFinance.com) - The contraction in US manufacturing activity slowed in November, according to the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) monthly survey published on Monday.
The ISM manufacturing index came in at 48.4 last month, up 1.9 percentage points on the 46.5 recorded in October, while economists were expecting an average index reading of 47.6.
This is the eighth consecutive month that the index has fallen below the 50-point threshold, which denotes a contraction in the sector. This is its 24th month out of 25 below this threshold.
The new orders sub-index jumped to 50.4 from 47.1 in October, while the prices paid sub-index fell to 50.3 from 54.8 the previous month.
The employment sub-index rose to 48.1 from 44.4 in October.
