Continental: more recycled materials in tires
(CercleFinance.com) - Continental has announced an increase in the proportion of recycled materials in its tires.
Several plants have recently been converted to use polyester fabric made from recycled PET plastic bottles, increasing the recycled content in many tire ranges by an average of 3%.
Depending on tire size, up to 15 PET bottles can be used per tire, says the manufacturer.
Continental introduced its ContiRe.Tex technology at the end of 2021, which converts non-recycled PET bottles into polyester yarn without intermediate chemical steps.
Since 2022, this technology has been used in certain factories in Europe, and the group plans to increase the proportion of renewable and recycled materials to over 40% by 2030.
