Thales: presents Carb-Chaser satellite project
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space unveils the Carb-Chaser project.
This program is based on a constellation of new-generation satellites, specially designed to detect and measure man-made carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, particularly those originating from industrial sites.
Carb-Chaser satellites incorporate hyper-compact interferometers, veritable concentrates of innovation. These instruments offer the ability to locate a CO2 plume and attribute its origin to a specific industrial facility, even in complex atmospheric conditions (wind, aerosols, water vapors, etc.).
Based on a technology patented by Thales Alenia Space, the multispectral interferometry approach marks a technological breakthrough in terms of reliability and performance. It thus strengthens the ability of satellites to provide reliable operational data, the group says.
