BMW: recycling battery cells at Kirchroth

(CercleFinance.com) - The BMW Group is building a competence center for battery cell recycling (CRCC) in Kirchroth, in the Straubing-Bogen district of Lower Bavaria, where it will implement a process known as 'direct recycling'.


The BMW Group is investing around €10 million in the construction of the new competence center.

This innovative process mechanically dismantles residual materials from battery cell production, as well as entire battery cells, into their valuable components.

The recovered raw materials are then directly reused in the pilot production of battery cells at the company's battery cell competence centers.

' The new competence center for cell recycling enhances our in-house know-how: from development to pilot production and recycling, we are creating a closed circuit for battery cells', explains Markus Fallböhmer, Senior Vice President Battery Production at BMW AG.
