Philips: cooperation with AI specialist icometrix
(CercleFinance.com) - Dutch healthcare equipment group Philips announced on Monday that it has teamed up with icometrix, a Belgian brain imaging AI specialist.
In a press release, Philips explains that it wants to work with the Leuven-based company on MRI-based information to facilitate the diagnosis of neurological diseases, including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's.
The healthcare equipment manufacturer explains that the arrival of new drugs to slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease has highlighted the importance of MRI scans.
Using AI-powered technologies, neurologists can more easily identify patients likely to benefit from these targeted treatments, it explains.
This announcement comes at a time when the number of people suffering from dementia, led by Alzheimer's, is expected to reach some 150 million by 2050, compared with 55 million today.
