Amazon: further investment in AI via Anthropic
(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon announced on Friday that it would invest a further four billion dollars in Anthropic, an American artificial intelligence company founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees.
This announcement comes after the Internet giant had already concluded a strategic collaboration with Anthropic last September, which resulted in an investment of four billion dollars.
In return, Anthropic made Amazon Web Services (AWS) its main supplier of cloud infrastructure.
In a press release, Amazon explains that it decided to increase its investment in Anthropic in view of the rapid adoption of its Claude 3 model family, which was integrated into Bedrock, its service platform for creating and scaling generative AI applications, last April.
"The response from AWS customers developing Anthropic-powered generative AI applications under Amazon Bedrock has been remarkable," boasts AWS CEO Matt Garman in a statement.
"We've been impressed by the pace at which Anthropic is designing its innovations and its commitment to developing generative AI responsibly, and look forward to deepening our collaboration," he added.
In addition to using AWS cloud resources, Anthropic plans to use Trainium, AWS's machine learning chip, and the Inferentia gas pedal, also designed by AWS, to build its next foundation models.
The two groups say they intend to work together to improve Trainium's performance and functionality.
