USA: Michigan confidence rises less than expected
(CercleFinance.com) - US household sentiment improved in November, but by less than the initial estimate, show the final results of the University of Michigan's monthly survey published on Friday.
The confidence index rose to 71.8, after 70.5 in October, whereas an initial estimate had put it at 73 two weeks ago, which economists expected to be confirmed.
Joanne Hsu, the report's author, explains that surveys conducted in the wake of the November 5 presidential election resulted in an index 1.3 points lower than its initial version.
While the expectations of Republican supporters have improved, those of Democrats have fallen, she points out, noting that questions surrounding Donald Trump's future economic policy are fuelling uncertainty among consumers, who expect to potentially revise their expectations in the coming months.
