GE Vernova: 100% hydrogen gas turbine in Australia

(CercleFinance.com) - GE Vernova announces that its LM6000 gas turbine will run on 100% renewable hydrogen at the Whyalla power station in southern Australia.

GE Vernova says it has secured an order from ATCO Australia for four LM6000VELOX units, with commissioning scheduled for early 2026.

The Whyalla power station will use renewable hydrogen produced from surplus energy generated by large-scale wind and solar farms, enabling CO2-free energy production.

The project is part of the South Australian government's Hydrogen Jobs Plan initiative.

The plant is expected to provide 200 MW of capacity and stabilize the state's electricity grid, particularly during periods when renewable energy is in short supply.
