Rio Tinto: still room for improvement in corporate culture

(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto today published the findings of an external, independent assessment of progress made in its efforts to ensure sustainable cultural change in the workplace across its global operations, two years after the launch of its 'Everyday Respect' program.

Although progress has been made, including an improved corporate culture and more open discussions, harmful behaviors persist, with cases of harassment and discrimination still being reported.

Among the advances, around half of employees perceive an improvement on sexual harassment (47%), racism (46%) and bullying (50%), compared with 8%, 2% and 4% respectively who believe these issues have worsened.

Nevertheless, 39% of respondents still report cases of bullying. Rio Tinto is stepping up its actions, including reinforced training, stricter management processes and initiatives to improve diversity and inclusion.

Jakob Stausholm, Chief Executive Officer, expresses his regret at the unacceptable behaviors still observed, while reaffirming the company's commitment to continuing its efforts.

Nearly 90% of employees will complete a revised mandatory training course by 2025.
