BMW: commissioning of a battery test center
(CercleFinance.com) - The Group announces the commissioning of the first phase of its Wackersdorf battery test center.
It has invested over 100 million euros in this plant. The Upper Palatinate site is thus becoming a key element in electromobility.
A year ago, the BMW Group announced its intention to build a new battery test center at the Wackersdorf site.
Today, the initial phase has gone into operation as planned. Covering more than 8,000 square meters and scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, the facility will test individual battery cells, high-voltage batteries and other electric powertrain components.
The investment focused primarily on the complex test stand technology and on upgrading the building's existing infrastructure, which is necessary for its operation.
In the final phase, from 2025 onwards, the test center will also be used to validate the BMW Group's battery-electric vehicles prior to the official launch of series production, and to guarantee the required high quality," said project manager Dr. Felix Schmidt-Stein.
