Vodafone: announces collaboration with AMD
(CercleFinance.com) - Vodafone and AMD have announced their collaboration to design silicon chips for mobile base stations.
These silicon chips will give 5G radios the power to meet future customer demand for higher-capacity digital services and AI.
The initiative will also support Vodafone's goal of reducing the size of radio antennas, their power consumption and the number of base stations.
At Vodafone's innovation center in Malaga, Spain, Vodafone and AMD engineers are testing radio hardware with AMD Zynq UltraScale+ RFSoC (Radio Frequency System-on-Chip) devices. This is a single-chip radio platform that can be adapted to combine several radio functionalities, including a set of Arm® processors.
