Rio Tinto: partnership with GravitHy at Fos-sur-Mer
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto announces that it has entered into a partnership with GravitHy to support its steel decarbonation project in Fos-sur-Mer, France.
Rio Tinto will supply direct-reduced iron ore pellets from its Canadian operations and manage sales of GravitHy's ultra-low-carbon hot briquetted iron (HBI).
The planned plant, operational in 2028, will produce two million tonnes of steel a year thanks to an infrastructure using low-carbon hydrogen powered by nuclear energy.
This process could reduce CO2 emissions associated with iron production by over 90%.
