Voltalia: repowering wind farms in Egypt
(CercleFinance.com) - Voltalia announces that, in partnership with TAQA Arabia and in the presence of the Egyptian Prime Minister, it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity for the repowering of the Zafarana wind farms
Initially commissioned by the Egyptian government two decades ago, the 545-megawatt Zafarana wind farms were the first of their kind in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, and a milestone in Egypt's renewable energy journey.
With the turbines nearing the end of their service life, a new strategy is needed to ensure the repowering of the site.
Voltalia and TAQA Arabia have jointly developed a modern hybrid renewable energy solution that maximizes land use by exploiting both wind and photovoltaic technologies for a total capacity of three gigawatts, with first commissioning scheduled for 2028.
