Apple: ordered by the EU to put an end to geographic blocking

(CercleFinance.com) - Following a coordinated investigation at European level, the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC Network) and the European Commission have notified Apple of several potentially prohibited geo-blocking practices.


These measures were identified on certain Apple media services, including App Store, Apple Arcade, Music, iTunes Store, Books and Podcasts.

The network has instructed Apple to bring its practices into line with EU rules against geographic blocking.

The CPC network believes that these practices illegally discriminate against European consumers on the basis of their place of residence.

Apple now has one month to respond to the CPC Network's concerns and propose commitments to comply with EU regulations against geographic blocking.

Should Apple fail to respond, enforcement action could be taken by national authorities.
