Thales: underwater drone contract with DGA
(CercleFinance.com) - At the Euronaval trade show, the Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), Exail and Thales have signed an agreement to supply sixteen autonomous underwater vehicles, eight of which are optional, as part of the SLAMF mine countermeasures program.
The French Navy aims to equip itself with A18-M autonomous UAVs, developed and designed by Exail. They will be equipped with the SAMDIS 600 sonar developed by Thalès.
The SLAMF program aims to renew the French Navy's mine warfare capabilities through the massive use of autonomous systems.
Its aims include securing the deployment of French submarines and aircraft carriers, protecting access to ports and supporting the deployment of a naval action force.
The agreement covers only the A-18 submarine drone, which will carry out the detection mission. The customer will select the other equipment and sub-systems at a later date, in order to obtain a complete, state-of-the-art system, Thales says.
