ABB: chosen by DS Smith to equip its Tuscan plant

(CercleFinance.com) - ABB announces that it has received an order from DS Smith Paper Italia, a subsidiary of the international packaging company DS Smith, to supply a new sectional drive system for a new containerboard machine at DS Smith's paper mill in Lucca, Tuscany.


The site, known for its recycled fiber and whiteboard products, will be home to Paper Machine 3 (PM3), which is expected to have an annual capacity of 450,000 metric tons once operational.

DS Smith has chosen the PMC800 drive system to 'improve performance, generate increased energy savings and achieve superior product quality, while ensuring fast start-ups, high reliability and easy integration with other mill automation systems'.

ABB will also supply M3BP and AXR induction motors and ACS880 drives.

'This project will significantly increase production capacity and improve energy efficiency at our Porcari plant', said Massimo Basta, General Manager of DS Smith's Lucca plant.
