ArcelorMittal: reducing CO2 emissions with ABB
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB and ArcelorMittal join forces to reduce the environmental impact of power distribution systems.
ABB joins forces with ArcelorMittal to introduce XCarb® steel made from high levels of recycled steel and 100% renewable energy for its Kabeldon power distribution system. The sustainable supply agreement reduces the carbon footprint of key electrification equipment by 29%.
By using XCarb® steel, the team behind Kabeldon reduced the carbon footprint of manufacturing by 60kg of CO2 equivalent.
'Low-carbon steel is an important part of ABB's sustainable procurement strategy and a portfolio target for ABB's Smart Power division over the next two years,' the group said in its statement.
''We share ABB's passion for innovation that reduces CO2e emissions throughout the product lifecycle. Our factories and technical teams worked closely with ABB experts throughout the process to prove that solutions designed with our low-carbon materials meet ABB's hallmark of reliability and performance', said Laurent Plasman, CMO Industry, ArcelorMittal Europe - Flat Products.
