Amazon: several nuclear power supply agreements
(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon announced on Wednesday that it has signed a series of nuclear power supply agreements, as have other major technology groups such as Microsoft.
The Internet giant explains that these "innovative" projects should enable it to meet its growing energy needs, while respecting its commitment to use only decarbonized energy.
The Seattle-based group, which says it sees nuclear power as a secure source of carbon-free energy, says its program will focus on the design of 'small modular reactors'.
In Washington State, an agreement has been reached with Energy Northwest, a consortium of state-owned energy companies, to build four reactors capable of generating 960 MW, equivalent to the consumption of more than 770,000 American homes.000 American homes.
This contract should enable the company to power all its activities in its Pacific Northwest cradle from the next decade onwards.
Amazon adds that it has made an investment in X-energy, a developer of next-generation nuclear reactors and fuels.
