Eiffage: acquisition of Eqos conditionally approved

(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission announced on Wednesday that it had authorized Eiffage's acquisition of German energy infrastructure company Eqos, subject to certain conditions.


In a press release, Brussels states that its green light is subject to full compliance with the undertakings given by Eiffage and Eqos in order to allay its concerns.

Both parties have offered to sell Eqos Belgium in its entirety, including all assets, personnel and current and future contracts relating to catenary systems and railroads.

As a result, Eqos Belgium will remain an independent competitor to Eiffage on the relevant market in Belgium", explains the European executive.

"Eqos and Eiffage are among the leading suppliers of electrical engineering services for railway contact lines in Belgium", points out Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President in charge of competition policy.

The transaction would have led to a sharp reduction in competition on this market", she adds, adding that the sale of Eqos' Belgian subsidiary will preserve choice and competitive pricing.
