Nokia: trial with Colt and Windstream Wholesale

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia, Windstream Wholesale and Colt Technology Services have joined forces to carry out the world's first trial of an ultra-fast 800 GbE optical and IP service linking London and Chicago.


This represents a submarine and terrestrial distance of 8,500 km on the production network.

The field trial involved connecting one of Colt's five powerful transatlantic submarine cables and part of its extensive terrestrial fiber optic network to Windstream Wholesale's low-latency Intelligent Converged Optical Network (ICON) in the USA.

The 800G technology marks a major advance in service bandwidth, doubling capacity to support advanced network applications such as AI data center networking, content delivery networks and connections to financial data hubs.

Following the successful trial, the groups are currently exploring options for bringing 800 GbE connectivity services to market for global business customers.
