Valeo: a new contactless transmission technology

(CercleFinance.com) - Valeo announced on Monday the extension of its portfolio of magnetless electric motors to vehicles in the upper segment as part of a collaboration with German automotive supplier Mahle.


The French group reports that this contactless transmission technology for magnetless electric motors has been designed around a brushless rotor and excitation system devised by Mahle.

Valeo explains that the partnership complements its portfolio of 'EESM' magnetless electric motors for higher-segment vehicles.

Valeo says that it launched a new generation of magnetless electric motors in 2022 with a dual objective.

The first was to achieve an all-in-one architecture with a new stator and new cooling technology enabling a 30% increase in power density compared with current motors.

The second objective was to reduce the carbon footprint by 30% compared with a magnet-equipped electric motor (PMSM).

This announcement comes as the Mondial de l'automobile 2024 is due to open tomorrow in Paris, at the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre.
