Boeing: X-37B to perform aerobraking maneuvers

(CercleFinance.com) - The Boeing Company announces that the X-37B, the unmanned spacecraft it has developed for the United States Space Force (USSF), will soon be performing a series of advanced aerobraking maneuvers.


Aerobraking is a technique that modifies the characteristics of a spacecraft's elliptical orbit by using the frictional forces exerted by the planet's atmosphere.

In this way, thanks to its atmospheric drag, the craft can change orbit while complying with space debris management standards.

There is no space platform as capable, flexible and maneuverable as the X-37B, and its upcoming demonstration will be further proof that this test vehicle sets the pace for innovation," commented Michelle Parker, Boeing's Vice President of Space Mission Systems.
