GE Vernova partners with Velan for small nuclear reactor

(CercleFinance.com) - GE Vernova Nuclear, via its subsidiary GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), has chosen Montreal-based Velan to provide engineering support and manufacture valves for the first BWRX-300 small modular nuclear reactor (SMR).


This project, conducted in collaboration with Ontario Power Generation (OPG), aims to build four 300 MW units on the Darlington site (Canada).

Initial site preparation work has been completed, and construction is scheduled to start in 2025, with commissioning planned by the end of 2029.

The partnership strengthens the Canadian nuclear supply chain, and positions Velan as a strategic global supplier. The BWRX-300 is a key element in the energy transition, helping to reduce costs and achieve decarbonization objectives," emphasizes GE Vernova.
