Novo Nordisk: global initiative against childhood obesity

(CercleFinance.com) - Novo Nordisk has announced a new global initiative to accelerate the prevention of childhood obesity in disadvantaged urban communities, a three-year initiative accompanied by an investment of over 250m DKK (c.
E34m).

In collaboration with municipal governments, academic institutions and non-profit organiSations, the initiative will aim to design, implement and evaluate tailor-made solutions focusing on physical activity and healthy eating.

As part of the project, changes in health and wellness behaviors will be measured in children aged six to 13 at baseline, with follow-ups one and two years post-intervention, respectively.

The initiative will be rolled out initially in six cities in Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, South Africa and Spain. By 2022, over 390 million children aged between five and 19 were overweight worldwide, with 160 million living with obesity.
