Thales: drone innovations presented in Portugal

(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday Thales announced that it had presented its latest innovations in autonomous UAVs in support of naval operations during a military exercise in Portugal.


During this exercise at sea, conducted under the aegis of the Portuguese navy, the French defense electronics manufacturer said it had demonstrated its expertise in anti-submarine warfare and mine warfare, as well as in anti-aircraft detection.

These are autonomous systems for all types of underwater missions (anti-submarine nets, critical infrastructure protection and mine warfare) and surface missions (maritime surveillance and anti-surface warfare).

Thales and its partners Schiebel and Tekever unveiled UAVs equipped with high-performance sensors and smart systems.

The group also reported that it was able to experiment with surveillance mission capabilities for multi-mission airborne systems (RWUAS) with the Royal Navy, equipping them with new intelligent sensor capabilities and combat management systems.

The annual 'REPMUS' exercise, taking place this year in Portugal as host and organiser, brings together several NATO members.
